Architectural Precedent

The Cologne (Koln) Cathedral.

Construction from 1248-1880 the cologne is one of Europe’s largest Cathedrals.
The intricate detailing on the cathedral not only creates a sense of elegance and status,
but also adds 'life' to it. Like an organic skin or even parasite growing alongside its host.
Although its age, size and materiality gives it an everlasting and static stature, it has gone
through many renewals in its life as well as seen its fair share of destruction and decay.
Its method of construction can also be seen as organic. Unlike the empty framed skyscrapers
of today held up by a columns and cores. The cathedral is layered, growing out of the ground
as its arch’s and buttresses support its towers. A grandfather of architecture, this dark and
mysterious building will continue to attract and amaze its audiences.

Abu Dhabi Performing Arts Centre, Zaha Hadid

A rebirth of architecture and form. A fluid form which seems alive.
Its facade is like an organic skeletal skin formed by entangling movement.
